chal|ced|o|ny «kal SEHD uh nee, KAL suh DOH-», noun, plural -nies.
a variety of fibrous quartz that has a waxy luster and occurs in various colors and forms. A common kind is grayish or blue. Agate, onyx, carnelian, and jasper are forms of chalcedony.
